Pieced Together

Bad weather, either too cold or too hot, requires a studio… and early January was freezing!!!  My studio only holds a few people at a time and this is the work around for a constrained space.  This session the space wasn’t really an issue, it was the light.  It was later in the day so I had everyone huddle close to the light.  The call time for winter photo shoots is around 3pm and this was the day we had to photograph these guys… during the week and before their soldier went back out into the field.  Thankfully everyone could get off work a bit early.

It always makes me smile seeing beautiful personalities shine through.  These boys are all so sweet.  I had never met two of them (or their dad) and it was so nice to see what great men they are and are becoming.  Good job, Steph.

Neighbors of Mine

This boy is a favorite in my house.  Older than my boys by several years, but one they look up to and look forward to seeing at swim team each summer.  They also love kicking a ball around, since all three are passionate about soccer.

We squeezed this session in between our busy schedules.  Dance rules this girl’s life.  A Twila Tharp in the making.

How Much Longer?

I heard that after I think 2 minutes of photographing these guys.  Ha!  After a few laughs, and some rock collecting and throwing, we walked back to the car as the sun set.  Sometimes kids just don’t want to sit and look at a camera.  That’s when a little play… or compromise… bribes… is needed. Dress shoes are overrated, anyway.

The Forest at the Edge of the Water

This was the day we were expecting rain but hoping for a clearing in the afternoon.  We got clear skies for a couple hours… just enough time.  The sun wasn’t quite in the right spot when we began, so we headed to the shade of the trees. This is my favorite spot while riding my bike in the mornings.  The birds sing such varied tunes that it is almost (almost!) like being in the tropics.

Once the sun set a bit, we moved to the water’s edge… and it got cold! The blanket wasn’t just a prop, it was useful.  Such a lovely, serene family.

Similar But Different

Twins have always fascinated me.  Zach wanted twins when I was first pregnant.  That was ages ago and I think we are both glad to have had all our kids one at a time.

Then we met this family with quads… all boys!  Watching them interact and play is pretty cool.  I can’t believe I actually got all their names down while photographing them.  Their different personalities and their love (and annoyance) for each other is beautiful.  All normal stuff, but different in little twin-ish ways from my singletons.

Autumn and I met about a year ago.  We are both creatives (she’s amazing and on Instagram @kimballcreative), and we’ve all spent time in Sydney so the connection was immediate.  I look forward to hanging with these guys as the years go by.
