Sick 1

  • by

For most of the first half of this year Ezra was sick. He stayed home about 30 days within a 3 month period. He is feeling much better now. I hope I discovered the offending food which was causing his illness. His doctor said he must be getting gluten in his diet consistently. I think it was the rice flour I bought that wasn’t certified gluten free. Cross contamination was never an issue with him before. But since he’s been off of wheat for nearly 3 years, his sensitivity is heightened. I think (and hope) the flour is what was causing the illness. Now he still does feel sick, here and there. But I am able to give him a pro-biotic or two and he seems to be able to function.
In March, Ezra was home sick probably the most. It didn’t help that the stomach flu was being passed around our house. He never did loose his cookies. March was the month I decided to document this time in his life. Here are a few images of my boy… sick.

My Girl is 11

I cannot believe it was 11 years ago that she came into our life. I keep trying to imagine her as a baby and little girl. It is so fun to see the photos I took from her toddler days. I always wondered who this little one will become. This questions is being answered every day. Today she loves art and science, riding her bike and reading books. I hope to help her find her passion. Something for her to do that will make her happiest. I cannot wait to learn more about my girl.

This is the invitation to her party coming up. We will make masks and have a photobooth for the girls to play in front of the camera.

Patriot’s Day

Visit Carrie Hyche’s blog to see what she has photographed for this month’s fine art group.

In light of yesterday’s tragedy I decided to share a portrait of a friend in a dress that is pretty much all American. I read a quote yesterday where the author noted that in the footage from the Boston Marathon explosions people were seen running toward the scene, to help. He went on to say that humans are inherently good. That if we weren’t, we would have killed ourselves off long ago. I believe this. This is one of the reasons I photograph. To show people the goodness and beauty in others and in themselves.

I Won’t Shut Up

NeverGiveUp
This was read in Relief Society (the women’s group) yesterday at Church.  It struck me, and reminds me of Brene Brown’s TED talk. Brene talks about being authentic and real, knowing that perfection is not a prerequisite for love and happiness.  We should not fear others, not worry about popularity.  Our job is to search for truth and lean on that and not be pushed off course.
This poem (and the lesson that was shared with it) also speaks of commitment. Commitment to a cause, to family, to others, to self, to life. Commitment is what moves us forward, helps us (and those we associate with) learn and grow. I need more commitment, more drive, more immersion in life. Immersion can be frightening.  It’s nicer to escape.  I lack commitment but it’s in me. It just needs to be awoken. Simply having a place to write my thoughts, as they come to me, will help me learn and grow. No, not on this blog… on paper.  I love paper and pen.  Such old tools.

Truth.
