Summer Update- Part 2

  • by

Should blogs show things as they happen? I am not one to blog everyday so our everyday things tend to get left behind. Here are a few of our activities that were forgotten this summer.

The typewriter that played the piano at the art gallery on Green St… next to where we lived in Boston:

The gazebo at this park:

Ezra making friends the day we tried to pick strawberries in MA:

India’s art camp.  This was the story telling class.  They opened by greeting the north, south, east and west while the teacher blew her conch shell.

The snake dance:

India preparing her costume/puppet/visual aid to help tell her story.  “My name is India.  I am a story unfolding.”  She loves her art camp and I love all the art/cultural things that are incorporated in each class.

Pudding pop mess.  Joys of summer.

Our tree that is no longer.  Notice the bursting planter box?  We want to save our stairs so felt we should destroy the tree.  So sad to loose something so beautiful.

4th of July!  How could this be forgotten?  I’m bad with blogging!

The hat that India made mostly on her own.  Zach and our neighbors in the background.

Oh yes, and India riding without training wheels… on the 4th of July also.  It was a big day.

This was awesome.  The Country Western Family Night concert in the Englewood outdoor amphitheater.

Summer Catch-up: Part 1

We have done a lot of things that have not made it onto this blog. Since this is the last week of summer for us, I thought I should post some of the highlights.

May:

E’s scooter ride.

I’s bungee ride

Photograph of Grandpa taken by E… most are not nearly as good as this.

June:

Story time at Jamaica Pond.  Good to be with friends.

A couple more from E.

Waiting for the Green Line.  Forever as always.

Near the Basketball stadium.  Can’t keep track of it’s name… is it called The Garden again? and I in front of the longest suspension bridge in the US… or is it the world?

Wall art in North End after eating Pizza Regina.

The many faces of E.  Thankfully he kept his fingers out of his mouth!

Both kids at the Public Garden. This is before dinner at Upper Crust.

These are after dinner and ice cream.

Let’s go to Lake Side

Have you ever been? Do you love it? Would you ever consider being photographed here?

These photographs only show a few of the very retro rides and sadly none of the signs or ticket booths. I couldn’t do them justice with my point-n-shoot camera with no tripod and diminishing light. I took a few images that show some of the things we did that evening. You will get a feel for the place at least.

Disclaimer: these images taken with a rinky-dink camera.

Many of the kid rides were very similar. Round and round in a circle. But you could tell they were built in a by-gone age.

We found the boys from our perch on the Farris Wheel.

So many things at the park inspired me. Even the bathroom.

Beautiful sunset from the train ride around the lake.

My Kids and Me

I have had the above image on my website’s info page for too long. I was pregnant with Ezra, and we still had about 4 months in Boston. It was taken by our friend Ryuji Suzuki with my then new Mamiya 6 rangefinder camera. Ahh those were the days of film and fun medium format rangefinders.

The other image of me floating around in cyberspace is this one taken in college.  My friend Christian Romero shot it for a class project.  He used 6 florescent tubs for light.  Pretty cool effect.  Christian also photographed our wedding… coming up on 11 years now!

Even though I love these images, it is time for a change. So yesterday I decided to pull out the tripod and get a few shots with both my kids. Luckily I have an assistant in training. She sat for me so I could focus. Then I had to wake up the monster. He enjoyed watching the light blink and the shutter fire. Too bad it made him smile after the exposure was made!

This was taken before waking the monster

1st shot was beautiful, I thought this would be a piece of cake. Well the final pick is nice, but far from perfect.

Here are a few of the outtakes that really show you what this shoot was all about:

Problems with focus, cropping and those fingers

You’re supposed to be over here…

Where’s my girl?

Thankfully we are going to have our family portrait taken next week. I can’t wait to see what she does with us. I think all photographers should be photographed at some time or another. I just never have!

Back from Boston

We had a blast in Boston. I really miss being in such a cool city. Although we are becoming aware of the cool things about Denver. It just seems like all those huge trees and the farms so close to the city are things only the East has.

Oh, and the best pizza on the planet is in the North End; Pizza Regina. A great description of that spot here. It was nice to see the familiar waitresses, made us feel like we never left.  Not that they recognized us… even if they did, they’d never admit it.

We also visited all our old haunts in Jamaica Plain and saw some of our great friends there. We even visited our friend’s community garden patch and picked 4lbs. of strawberries out of a 2×3′ patch. Amazing!

India even went on a camp-out with her friend’s grandparents.  Ok, it was in an RV.  But still, who would have guessed she could have squeezed in a camp-out on our Boston trip?  Good times, great memories.  Makes me want to return home.

Here’s one image from our stay in Boston. Stay tuned for more…
